After three tours, it`s time for the fourth expedition
In the last ten years I’ve done three long tours accross Portugal, the first and second were a solo travel and the third one with a friend’s company. On each of them I tried to cover a diferent part of Portugal, so I always made a diferent itinerary and the fourth one won`t be diferent. The last three I was lucky to have the sponsor of Pousadas de Juventude (Youth Hostels) nothing decided yet about the next expedition.
Travelling with the wind
One thing I know for sure, the next one will be diferent than the previous three. The first three I had a specific outlined route and a schedule to be followed, but not in the next one. I don`t know how much time I will take and just have a draft of the route I want to follow but nothing very restricted, I will just follow my intuition and enjoy the freedom of exploration. Open-Mindedness are the key words. Approach each day with an open mind. Be receptive to new opportunities, people and places. Sometimes the most memorable moments come from unexpected encounters.
The idea is to start in Setúbal and go South through the interior of Alentejo, then cross Algarve to East. From Vila Real de Santo António I will turn North and continue as close as possible to the border with Spain to reach the city of Bragança on the extreme North-East of Portugal. The intention as a solo travel by bike is to explore the most wild and desert part of Portugal. From there I will turn West and go to Gerês mountanious region. From Gerês I will begin my return to South through the middle of Portugal.
